UPDATE 26/07/24: A Eurogamer reader has reached out to clarify some of the wording from yesterday’s report, regarding the man who threatened Nintendo staff and his sentancing. Our reader kindly explained the Kyoto District Court has sentenced Kenshin Kazama to a year’s prison sentence, suspended for four years.
This means, unless he commits some other offense, it’s likely he will not be jailed immediately for threatening Nintendo. The original story continues below.

ORIGINAL 25/07/24: A man who sent almost 40 threatening messages to Nintendo, including death threats, has been sentenced to one year in prison and four years of probation by Kyoto District Court.
As reported by Japanese newsite NHK, Kenshin Kazama – a 27-year-old employee of Hitachi City – was accused of forcible obstruction of business after sending 39 threats using the inquiry form on Nintendo’s website.
These threats were sent between August and November last year.

Amid its push toward mobile and free-to-play titles and away from the “volatile” AAA space, Warner Bros. has announced the acquisition of MultiVersus developer Player First Games.

MultiVersus – which has had an unusual, sometimes controversial development journey since the start of its open beta back in 2022 – is Player First Games’ debut title. It finally got its full free-to-play release this May after disappearing for over a year, and while its current player numbers don’t appear to be anywhere near those seen during the height of its open beta popularity, Warner Bros. is clearly happy enough to acquire the studio behind it.

Full details of the purchase haven’t been disclosed, but Warner Bros. confirmed (via IGN) Player First Games’ co-founders Tony Huynh and Chris White will continue to lead the studio.

Sales of Resident Evil 7 on iOS have flopped, having been bought by under 2000 people.

That’s according to store data estimates from Appmagic, as shared by MobileGamer.biz. The free-to-start game has been downloaded 83,000 times since its release on 2nd July, meaning just 2.4 percent of players converted to the £15.99 paid version.

In all, Resident Evil 7 on iOS has earned Capcom an estimated $28,140, though that doesn’t include Apple’s 30 percent cut.

It appears the credits for Elden Ring, revised after the release of DLC Shadow of the Erdtree, do not properly credit translators from Latin America.

Eurogamer understands the revised credits now fully credit translators from Europe. Localisation staff have been listed, as well as a Special Thanks including all individual translators, all under Bandai Namco Europe.

However, translators from Latin America under Bandai Namco America have not been given the same courtesy. Thai translators have also not been listed individually by Bandai Namco Asia, beyond the name of the agency, unlike those for Chinese and Korean.

Apex Legends’ upcoming Season 22 will make significant changes to the free-to-play shooter’s Battle Pass “experience”, developer Respawn Entertainment has announced, by releasing two Battle Passes per season instead of one, and then charging full price for each.

As of Season 22, Apex Legends is ditching its current season-long Battle Pass in favour of two half-season Battle Passes – one launching at the start of a season and another at its mid-point “split” – each featuring 60 levels of rewards, compared to the previous version’s 110.

Despite the truncated number of progression levels, each new half-season premium Battle Pass costs approximately the same as the older season-long version. Previously, a premium Battle Pass cost 950 Apex Coins (a 1000-coin bundle is priced at $9.99 USD), and Respawn’s new half-season Battle Passes are $9.99 each. A new Premium+ tier (replacing the existing Premium Bundle) is $19.99 every half-season, and a free tier remains available.

Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi says he’s reluctant to work on a Final Fantasy game again as he’s having too much fun playing Final Fantasy 14.

It marks the first time Sakaguchi has worked for his former studio in over 20 years.

UPDATE 4.30pm UK: Eurogamer has received the following visual statement from Hotline Miami 2 publisher Devolver Digital, in response to today’s news:

Eurogamer’s original story follows.

ORIGINAL STORY 1pm UK:
PlayStation has removed Hotline Miami 2 from sale in Australia and refunded PS5 owners who bought the game, a decade on from the infamous kerfuffle over its release down under.

Back in January 2015, designer Jonatan Söderström memorably told Aussie fans to simply pirate Hotline Miami 2 after its release was blocked by the notoriously-strict Australian Classification Board, due to its inclusion of a skippable scene that showed simulated sexual violence.

But all of that seemed to have been smoothed over last October, when Hotline Miami 1 and 2 got a native release on PS5 in the country. Indeed, Hotline Miami 2 was later added to the PlayStation Plus Extra catalogue too.

12 months on from its PS5 arrival, however, Australian owners of the game on PS5 are suddenly receiving refunds – as someone, seemingly at the ACB, has once again stepped in to enforce the board’s original ruling.
